My name is Amy Hourigan. My family and I landed in Virginia three years ago by way of Boston. Yes, we are born and bred “Yankees”-although not Yankee’s fans. GO RED SOX!!!
My husband and I have two crazy, amazing children. Brandon is four and Ava just turned one! For the past two years, I have been working as an assistant director at a preschool. I returned to the University of Richmond’s School of Continuing Studies this past summer to finally complete my degree. Completing my degree has been one of my biggest aspirations. I entered college briefly after graduating high school but I was quite conflicted about what I wanted to “do with my life”. After a year and a half of college, I had very little to show for it, and my enthusiasm for continuing my education had dwindled to nonexistence. I decided to take some time off, and it was the best decision I think I could have made. I enrolled in community college two years later with a renewed outlook on myself, and my future. I had matured quite a bit in those two years and I re-entered the college life with this overwhelming desire to learn as much as I possibly could. When my husband and I decided to make the move here to Richmond, took a couple of years off from my education againg to adjust to our new environment as well as expand our family. I have finally made finishing my education a top priority and I am so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to do so at U of R.
