The antics and mayheim of a boy in the night

So here I am staring at the computer screen attempting to add some pizzaz to my blog and trying to think of a witty opening post. It is a wonderfully cool evening. I have all the windows and screen doors open and I am thankful that Friday has finally arrived. The sound of night bugs and tree frogs fill my ears. I begin to relax until the obnoxious sound of an electronic train puffing down the tracks to the “Thomas the Tank Engine” theme song. How this child is still awake is beyond me. I put him to bed hours ago. Why I thought of suggesting the “cute Thomas laptop” I spotted at Target one December afternoon as a great Christmas gift is beyond me. The cuteness has worn off. I am partially to blame, I could have scooped it up and deposited it in the playroom but I thought to myself, “Hey, maybe he can quietly entertain himself for a few minutes and drift off to sleep.” WRONG!!! I listened to Mr. Conductor’s voice so many times, I thought I was in Grand Central Station. Sighing, I push back my chair and head upstairs. l enter my four year old’s bedroom and there he is huddled under the dim glow of his nightlight with his ear mashed up against the game’s speaker. “Let’s go, into bed” I proclaim, snatching up the game. B jumps up and dives into his bed (thinking maybe by doing this, I won’t really think he was out of his bed to begin with). “Please, just go to sleep, baby” I urge. His reply, “Mommy, I can’t go to sleep because I am as hungry as a starving pig.”  He’s got me there, I have no witty response except, “Then I guess I’ll have to make a really big breakfast in the morning.” Only a four year old boy could be as “hungry as a starving pig”, yet, I didn’t have the patience to ask him if he’d ever seen a skinny pig. Maybe tomorrow night.

Haha – I love this one. More and more, I love blogging and blogs, too. No wonder people end up spending half their lives in front of computer screens–blogs are like windows into people’s minds and lives or a conversation among virtual strangers. I think I’m becoming obsessed. I sure hope that’s not a bad thing.

  2. My daughter LOVES Thomas the Tank Engine. I know that theme song all to well. It really sticks with you!
